GHPL Week 3 Preview: Hearts To Halt Losing Run As Kotoko, 5 Others Seek Maximum Points After Three Games

The 2019/20 Ghana Premier League enters into Match Day three as all eighteen (18) clubs look set for the weekend round of games.

Bottom-placed Hearts of Oak will seek their first point of the new campaign when they host Ebusua Dwarfs at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The Phobians have had a poor start to the new season, losing 1-0 to Berekum Chelsea before being thumped 3-0 by Medeama SC at the Tarkwa Park.

They come up against another side [Ebusua Dwarfs ]who are yet to pick up a point this season. A win for either side will come as a breather but Hearts of Oak could use that more after coming under increasing pressure to perform following a relatively active transfer window.

Six (6) clubs are aiming to maintain the winning record after two games; defending champions Aduana Stars will face struggling King Faisal at the home while Asante Kotoko play 7th-place Berekum Chelsea.

The Porcupine Warriors came from a goal down to beat Legon Cities 3-1 on Friday night at the Accra Sports Stadium. Coach Maxwell Konadu and his charges will look to replicate similar form when they face Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.

Ashanti Gold SC will welcome Eleven Wonders to the Obuasi LenClay stadium. The visitors are without a point so far. At the Dawu Park, Dreams FC will face talk-of-the-town Legon Cities FC in what promises to be an interesting fixture. The rebranded Legon Cities will be seeking their first three points of the season after having picked just a point in their first two games. They will aim to overcome the 3-1 loss to Asante Kotoko in the last fixture, but this will not come easy as they face Dreams FC at the ‘Theatre of Dreams’ in Dawu.

After suffering an opening day defeat to Bechem United, Elmina Sharks managed a point at home against Karela United last Sunday. They have been presented another opportunity to play at home but this time it comes against West African Football Academy (WAFA) who have won all two games; beating Karela United and Ebusua Dwarfs 1-0, 2-0 respectively.

After an emphatic victory against Hearts of Oak, Medeama SC will test their resolve when they travel to the Dansoman Karl Reindolf Park to play Liberty Professional. The scientific soccer lads have picked two points in their two opening games so far; a 2-2 draw against Legon Cities FC and a goalless stalemate away to Berekum Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Karela United will play Inter Allies FC at home. Following a 4-0 opening day defeat to Aduana Stars, the ‘Eleven is to One’ side recovered with a 2-1 victory against Bechem United last Saturday.

The Liberty Professionals – Medeama SC game is scheduled for Saturday, 11th January 2019 with the rest of the games set for Sunday

CK Akonnor wins dismissal case against Kotoko, Ghanaian giants ordered to pay compensation

Asante Kotoko are expected to CK Akonnor a hefty compensation after the former coach won his case for wrongful dismissal against the club on Monday. The Player Status Committee has ruled the Porcupine Warriors breached the terms of his contract. The ex-Ghana international was sacked in July this year, just nine months into his three-year contract. He dragged the club to the Ghana Football Association demanding his 2 years salary, league trophy cash, and CAF Confederations Cup group stage entitlements. The Player Status Committee ruled that the club was not justified in terminating the contract of the former Hearts of Oak gaffer. Both parties are yet to be furnished with a copy of the ruling. Akonnor rejected an offer to head the club’s technical directorate and left his post under bitter circumstances. The gaffer had been in charge for a close to a year having had stints with Kotoko sworn rivals Hearts of Oak and regional rivals Ashantigold. He had also coached D...

Today In History: Kwame Nkrumah arrives in Guinea After the Coup

When news of the coup reached him, Nkrumah was in Peking (today’s Beijing) en route to the Vietnamese capital, Hanoi, with plans to end the American war in Vietnam. Leaders of four African countries sent Nkrumah immediate messages of support and invitations. They were the presidents of Egypt (Gamal Abdel Nasser), Mali (Modibo Keita), Guinea (Sekou Toure), and Tanzania (Julius Nyerere). Nkrumah decided to accept Sekou Toure’s invitation. The government of Guinea shared Nkrumah’s Pan-African objectives, encompassing the liberation of the African people from all forms of social injustice and economic exploitation. There also existed a strong brotherly bond between Nkrumah and Sekou Toure. In addition, Guinea was closest to Ghana, to where Nkrumah was determined to return to carry on his work.
