#GPLwk9 PREVIEW: HEARTS PLAY AS GUEST TO ADUANA, KOTOKO TRAVEL TO DAWU AND OTHERS.

Day two of the Ghana Premier League week nine has dawned upon us with some entertaining fixtures to look up to. Diminishing giants Accra Hearts of Oak travel to entertain Aduana while Kotoko journey to Dawu as they play Dreams FC to try their luck on the road. League underdogs, Great Olympics and Eleven Wonders play at the Accra Sports Stadium, AShGold host Liberty, Bechem Utd entertain Ebuasua Dwarfs at home, Elmina Sharks host early league leaders Berekum Chelsea while Karela Utd entertain exciting Medeama SC.

Aduana Stars and Hearts of Oak sit second and tenth on the league table respectively with 16 and 11 points as well. Adauna play the Phobians on the back of a surprising three one lose to Mysterious Dwarfs while the Phobians were wasteful and could not bag all three points at home to AshGold. Aduana have made their home so much of a fortress and talisman and leader Yahaya Mohammed have made their home ground so much of a training ground, scoring at all home matches so far this season. And, the Phobians they are so much productive on the road than home after that three-nil humiliation to Medeama, grinding results at Dansoman and Dawu while drawing for the first time to old nemesis WAFA. The last time this two met in the league it was a pulsating three all draw at the Accra Sports Stadium, so expect an exciting match and also any results from the Nana Agyemang Badu Stadium today.

There’s only a point separating Kotoko and Dreams on the table with the Porcupine Warriors sitting 5th while the Believe boys are 7th on the table. Kotoko are going into this game without a victory in their last two fixtures after beating Hearts two one at Accra, they drew one all at home to Liberty and drew blank as well to WAFA on the road. Dreams FC will be glowing of motivation after their mode changing victory away at Dansoman Liberty and will certainly be giving Kotoko a run for their money at Dawu. In the last three meetings of these two in this fixture, Kotoko won two times while Dreams won once at home all of these results being a one goal project for each side.

Great Olympics and Techiman Eleven Wonders are not in the best of runs this term, but Great Olympics are the better of the two. Great Olympics in their last five matches have lost and drew once while winning three as for Eleven Wonders they’ve lost twice, won twice and drew one. Olympics will be hoping their scoring marshals that gave them an impressive four three victory over King Faisal come to the party today so they can bag all three points at home. Eleven Wonders will be optimistic of putting behind them their three-nil drabbing at home to Inter Allies and win their first ever away three points this season.

Impressive road masters, Liberty Professions will hope to bring their away form to the fore when they travel to play AshGold at Obuasi. In their last matches in the league, Liberty were beaten two one at home to Dreams FC while the Miners grind out a hard-fought blank draw at Accra to Hearts of Oak. AshGold will hope to build on the Hearts momentum and beat Liberty at home who are yet to lose an away fixture this season. In their last meeting at the Len Clay Stadium, it was a one zero victory for AshGold.
Midtable side, Bechem Utd face off at home with early relegation threatened Ebusua Dwarfs who are second but last on the table. Dwarfs,
who in the past fixtures of this league stunned second from the top, Aduana Stars and will hope that momentum replicate itself at Bechem. Bechem Utd lost to a superior side, Medeama SC in their last fixture by a lone goal to nil after beating leaders, Berekum Chelsea two one, so, will be hoping to make that score line a thing of the past and compile the woes of Dwarfs.

Elmina Sharks will welcome the leaders, Berekum Chelsea as guest who from their last eight fixtures in the Ghana Premier League have lost just once and are not thinking of slowing down anytime soon. Elmina Sharks have just one win to their name this season, that came away at the Accra Sports Stadium in a dramatic three two win to Inter Allies, from there they are still in search of a “mode changing moment of which to hung their hopes”. Berekum Chelsea prior to this fixture have won at home by a lone goal to nil to Karela Utd. The leaders will try to make this fixture an easy one to maintain their run on the top of the league table.

To last but not least, 15th on the table, Karela Utd will be hoping to tame 3rd placed, Medeama Sporting Club when the two sides lock horns this afternoon. Prior to this fixture the two sides met just once in the truncated league which Medeama popped out as one zero winners at home. This season Medeama lost twice while the Ayinase outfit lost four times.
Medeama will be hoping to win this fixture to make a statement in their quest for African football next season on the other side Karela who are just a point above the drop zone will hope to climb further up the table to avoid the drop, that’s the significance of this fixture, one in search of luxury, the other searching for safety.

All matches kickoff simultaneously at 3pm across the seven league centres.

CK Akonnor wins dismissal case against Kotoko, Ghanaian giants ordered to pay compensation

Asante Kotoko are expected to CK Akonnor a hefty compensation after the former coach won his case for wrongful dismissal against the club on Monday. The Player Status Committee has ruled the Porcupine Warriors breached the terms of his contract. The ex-Ghana international was sacked in July this year, just nine months into his three-year contract. He dragged the club to the Ghana Football Association demanding his 2 years salary, league trophy cash, and CAF Confederations Cup group stage entitlements. The Player Status Committee ruled that the club was not justified in terminating the contract of the former Hearts of Oak gaffer. Both parties are yet to be furnished with a copy of the ruling. Akonnor rejected an offer to head the club’s technical directorate and left his post under bitter circumstances. The gaffer had been in charge for a close to a year having had stints with Kotoko sworn rivals Hearts of Oak and regional rivals Ashantigold. He had also coached D...

Today In History: Kwame Nkrumah arrives in Guinea After the Coup

When news of the coup reached him, Nkrumah was in Peking (today’s Beijing) en route to the Vietnamese capital, Hanoi, with plans to end the American war in Vietnam. Leaders of four African countries sent Nkrumah immediate messages of support and invitations. They were the presidents of Egypt (Gamal Abdel Nasser), Mali (Modibo Keita), Guinea (Sekou Toure), and Tanzania (Julius Nyerere). Nkrumah decided to accept Sekou Toure’s invitation. The government of Guinea shared Nkrumah’s Pan-African objectives, encompassing the liberation of the African people from all forms of social injustice and economic exploitation. There also existed a strong brotherly bond between Nkrumah and Sekou Toure. In addition, Guinea was closest to Ghana, to where Nkrumah was determined to return to carry on his work. Sekou Toure came to the rescue of Kwame Nkrumah, the deposed of Ghana and invited him to Guinea where he arrived on March 2, 1966, together with his bodyguards and a few civil servants w...
